Micron develop new microdisplay technology

Micron reveal the potential of their new projector device.

Micron is one of the worlds leading providers of advanced semiconductor solutions, One of their many divisions - FLCOS (fast liquid crystal on silicon) microdisplays has designed a new technology which makes it possible to project anything you desire from a relatively small form factor device.

An article found on cnet explains the real potential and benefits of this new innovation. Currently the technology is still in 'prototype' stage, where movies and ESPN clips stored on an iPhone can be projected onto a screen via a small device embedded with a 3M profection engine. That alone is pretty beneficial, with such a small device projecting a good quality image, particulary with text based slides. However, the most exciting factor of this technology is it's development potential. By late 2010, early 2011 the thumbnail chip behind the device could be fixed into commercially available smartphones, such as the iPhone.

As a result, not only will it make it possible to share a movie or PowerPoint presentation with a number of individuals, but it will allow businesspeople to project a presentation on any given surface, at any time they want. The embedded chip will make an ideal feature for busy individuals who are always on the move, eliminating the hassles of carrying around a laptop and restrictions of projection screens; and not forgetting how it would impress your potential new clients.
